Choosing a job in sales can present you with huge advantages and perks. It’s the perfect opportunity to constantly challenge yourself, while benefiting from the high earning potential and the flexible work environment that it offers you.
There are several reasons why getting a job in sales could be a fantastic transition for you. It’s actually one of the best jobs ever. I am so glad that I have been in the sales profession and the sales training industry for 18 years now, even though I found it by accident. Nothing would make me change my decision to stay and you are now going to learn the top 10 reasons why you should get a job in sales.
Reason #1: You decide your income level.
Unless you’re a business owner, there’s no other job where you can get started and decide for yourself how much money you want to make every month. Even if you’re an entrepreneur, on many different levels, it’s still a sales position.
Reason #2: You can earn more money than experienced salespeople.
In a sales job, your income is based on your effort and performance. You’re rewarded if you hit your monthly, quarterly and yearly goals. So, you want a raise? Great. Go get it. Work harder or smarter (or even better) both.
You can be doing the same job as someone who has been there for 5 or 10 years, but all of a sudden, you’re producing more than them. Boom, you’ll be generating a higher salary and higher commissions.
Being a good salesperson has nothing to do with how long a person has been doing their job. It has everything to do with your skills.
Reason #3: You can make BIG money FAST.
It is possible to make big money fast in the sales industry, but it’s not easy and it’s not about luck. You have to be strategic about your decisions and work arduously in order to accomplish that.
On the one hand, you would want to know which sales careers lead to big salaries. In other words, you would have to be in a sector, like real estate, where there’s high ticket closing and offers.
On the other hand, being a good salesperson does not solely rely on accumulating and honing your skills. Especially, at the beginning of your sales career you can actually excel in your production if you work hard enough and simply put in more effort. This way you can benefit from commission checks, annual bonuses, trips prizes and a lot of other incentives.
In fact, I have a video about how saleswomen can overachieve more than salesmen, simply because they put in more work.

Reason #4: Freedom.
Depending on where you work and the industry that you work in, at a certain point of your career, you can actually become free and plan your days as you please.
You can manage your client base, renewals and revenue flow in a way that allows you to set a flexible schedule for yourself. As long as you hit your goals and don’t abuse your freedom.
In addition to that, there are a lot of positions available now for remote sales, which means you don’t need to physically be in any particular location. How amazing is that?
So, no matter where you are in the world, you are closing deals, all the time. You can travel, spend time with your family and friends and make money at the same time!
Reason #5: Job security.
Sales is not a profession that is going to become obsolete, any time soon. Even with everything becoming automated and the constant emergence of new technologies, human-to-human interaction will always be of great importance to businesses. They will always need their top producing salespeople to talk to clients, close deals and drive revenue (at least in certain industries).
Moreover, people with proven sales skills are in demand by companies all over the world. You immediately gain substantial market value in the eyes of everyone and could, potentially, work anywhere you want, once you show that you know how to sell with a proven track record.
Reason #6: You can learn fascinating subjects.
At a certain point of your sales career, you’ll want to improve your sales skills in order to produce more in less time. That’s when you get to learn all types of fascinating subjects like psychology, NLP and body language.
Learning about these subjects has many advantages. The most important one is that it increases your confidence level by nurturing your knowledge about human interaction and behavior. Which means that you’ll have a better understanding of why people do what they do and you’ll know, exactly, what to do about it.
On top of that, discovering and learning about these subjects can provide you with techniques that you can apply to every part of your life. This includes your interactions with your family, your friends, your boyfriend or your girlfriend, the list goes on.
Acquiring this type of knowledge can give you valuable insights that will come handy in almost every interaction you engage in; so I made a video specifically about how sales are intertwined with all parts of life.
Reason #7: It’s exciting!
What’s really exciting about getting a job in sales is that deals that have high commissions are not that rare to come by. In fact, you can potentially have one deal that makes for a whole year worth of revenue.
Although this does not occur frequently, it certainly does happen.
To whom? You might ask.
To people that work hard (coincidentally), that are smart about what they do and that are constantly sharpening their skills. Even if you work in small ticket items, you can have a client that asks for a bulk order. That happens a lot. So, all of a sudden, you made more commission this month than your last four months combined.
Reason #8: Sales is the no.1 skill that entrepreneurs need.
Being a good salesperson can contribute enormously to your entrepreneurial endeavors. You need to be able to persuade people to work with you, to work for you, to pay you, to sign up with you and to sign contracts.
So, if you’re thinking of becoming an entrepreneur, you should seriously consider learning more about sales. To do that, you can take part of my sales training, or become a member of Sales Society, where you’ll get access to all my courses. Not to mention that you’ll benefit from private feedback sessions to zone in on key areas that are specific to your situation and improve on them.
Reason #9: A job in sales will help you manage your emotions.
In the sales profession, you’re going to experience amazing days, good days, bad days and horrible days.
A lot of people don’t last in sales because of this very reason.
It’s difficult to psychologically handle these ups and downs. However, the best salespeople know that this teaches you to stay emotionally balanced and are used to it. They have developed a way to manage their emotions in business, as well as in their day-to-day life.
Reason #10: You will meet fascinating people.
When you become exceedingly good at sales, you’ll start to associate with the top salespeople and the top producers that work in your company, as well as in other companies.
What you’re going to notice is that they have a very different approach to life. They have a steady flow of positive attitude. They are realistic and optimistic, at the same time. They take action and believe that their success is inevitable. The positive attitude allows them to be resilient when things don’t go their way. It helps cast an atmosphere of positivity on everybody in their circle.
On the contrary, people that adopt a negative or a lazy attitude drain the energy from everyone around them. This will backfire on them and prevent them from ever accomplishing their ambitions. Adopting such attitude only attracts people who are also like that and it actually repels people that you should be interested in meeting.
You need to be mingling with the top 5%. It will absolutely change you, for the better.
